Hatch Chiles are Coming!

We’ve waited all year and the season for Authentic New Mexico Hatch Chiles is finally here! Fresh, authentic New Mexico Hatch Chiles are arriving in our stores and a number of our locations will be hosting Hatch Chile Roasts throughout the summer.

Hatch fanatics have been known to take them home by the case load and freeze them to use throughout the year. You might want to make room in your freezer… you’ll need it once get your first taste of Hatch.

Celebrated by home cooks, cookbook authors and celebrity chefs alike, the Hatch green chile is the ideal ingredient to have on hand when you need to add a little kick to you next culinary creation. Avocado, Mango and Hatch Salsa

Hatch Chile Salsa

Ingredients:

  • 1 Ripe Mango, diced
  • 1 Avocado, diced
  • 1 Hatch Chile, seeded and diced
  • 1/2 C. Red Onion, finely diced and soaked in cold water for 10 minutes
  • 3 TBSP. Fresh Cilantro, finely chopped
  • 2 TBSP. Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
  • 2 TBSP. Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice
  • Kosher Salt and Pepper, to taste

Preparation:

Combine the mango, avocado, chile, onion, cilantro and citrus juice in a medium bowl. Toss gently to mix. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.

Hatch Chile Seven Layer Dip

Hatch Chile Seven Layer Dip

Ingredients:

  • 1 LB. Heinen’s Own Lean Ground Beef
  • 2 TBSP. Hatch Chile Powder
  • 1 (16 oz.) Can Refried Beans
  • 8 OZ. Sour Cream
  • 3 Tomatoes, diced
  • 1 C. Prepared Salsa
  • 3 Hatch Chiles, roasted, peeled, stemmed, seeded and chopped
  • 1 1/2 C. Shredded Cheese
  • Tortilla Chips

Preparation:

  1. Brown the beef in a nonstick skillet over medium high heat. Drain off the rendered fat, then season the meat with the chile powder and set it aside to cool.
  2. In an 8 inch square dish spread the refried beans in an even layer, followed by the ground beef, then the sour cream, tomatoes, salsa and Hatch Chiles. Top with shredded cheese. Chill for at least 2 hour before serving.
  3. Serve with tortilla chips.

Hatch and Bleu Cheese Sliders

Slider Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 LB. Heinen’s Own Lean Ground Beef
  • 1 C. Roquefort Cheese
  • 3 Hatch Chiles, roasted, peeled, stemmed, seeded and chopped
  • Kosher Salt and Freshly Ground Pepper, to taste
  • Kings Hawaiian Dinner Rolls or Slider Buns, sliced

Preparation:

  1. Preheat the grill to high heat.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the beef, roquefort and chiles in a bowl. Mix well and shape into 8 small uniform patties.
  3. Grill the sliders to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Serve on the rolls with desired condiments. (i.e. ketchup, mustard, relish, tomato, lettuce, onion, etc…)

Hatch Chile Chili

Hatch Chili

Ingredients:

  • 2 LBS. Heinen’s Own Lean Ground Beef
  • 1 TBSP. Olive Oil
  • 1 Small White Onion, chopped
  • 1 Smal Red onion, chopped
  • 1 C. Red Bell Pepper, chopped
  • 8 Hatch Chiles, roasted, peeled, stemmed, seeded and chopped
  • 1 (15 oz.) Can Tomato Sauce
  • 1 Can Dark Red Kidney Beans
  • 1 (28 oz.) Can Diced Tomatoes, with juice
  • 2 TSP. Ground Cumin
  • 1 1/2 TSP. Black Pepper
  • Kosher Salt, to taste

Preparation:

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Drain off the rendered fat; remove the meat from the pan and set it aside.
  2. Add the oil to the sauce pan and saute the onions and bell peppers until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the chiles and the browned beef to the pan. Add the tomato sauce, kidney beans, diced tomatoes, cumin, black pepper and 4 cups of water to the pan.
  4. Bring the chili to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer until thickened, about 1 hour. Season to taste with salt before serving.
