New Cheese Bellavitano Chipotle

New Cheeses for Winter 2017

After the decadence and indulgence of the holiday season, many of us go back to basics with our meals at the start of a new year. To a certain extent we do so in your Heinen’s Cheese Department, too. That’s not to say that we don’t bring in some great finds! We simply take a step back and focus on classic cheeses that take it up a notch.

These new additions are great on their own, in a rich grilled cheese, or shredded over your favorite chili or stew. Your Cheesemonger is happy to help you locate these new finds next time you’re in store:

Rahmtaler

Rahmtaler

Richer and creamier than Emmentaler – also known as Swiss Cheese – this Rahmtaler is made from full-fat cream. It’s great for snacking and we recommend pairing it with rosé, sparkling wines, or malty-style beers.

Chipotle Bellavitano

Bellavitano Chipotle

The savory flavors of this cheese create a memorable tasting experience. One minute you taste garlic, the next you taste spice, and then the next bite has sweet flavors from the cheese itself. It’s a great ingredient cheese and pairs well with IPAs, brown ales, and crisp white wines.

1655 Gruyere

1655 Gruyere

Not all gruyères are created equal, just like all cheddars aren’t the same. This one is complex and has aromas and flavors of toasted hazelnuts. Cheesemaker Jean-Marie Dunand makes this cheese in small batches, only from the best milk. Pair it with a Riesling, bourbon, or Belgian Dubbel for maximum enjoyment.

Want to take this gruyère a step further?

Create a hearty grilled cheese with sourdough bread, fig spread, speck (crisped in the oven until sides start to curl), & 1655 gruyère. Enjoy it with a porter or winter ale such as Hibernation Ale.

  1. Sunday at the Mentor location, I purchased a small wedge of a blueberry cheese- it was white, a bit crumbly, and a bit sweet- with blueberries.
It was amazing on my salad with strawberries, balsamic dressing, and candied pecans.
Can you think of what the name might be? I didn’t save the wrapper. Thank you!

    1. Hi Heidi – Our Cheesemonger confirmed that it was either Blueberry Fayre or Stilton with Blueberries. Our Mentor Cheesemonger would be happy to help you locate it next time you’re in store! Thanks for reaching out to us.

  2. It’s the Stilton with blueberries- I add it to my spinach and strawberry salads with candied pecans and balsamic vinaigrette. Heaven! There is a similar cheese with an orange fruit. Perhaps apricot or dried mango?

    1. That sounds delicious, Heidi! We’re happy you were able to locate it.

Are you seeking assistance in finding the cheese with apricot or dried mango as well? We can consult with our Cheesemonger, if so.
