Alicia Hansen's Picnic in the Park

#SummerWithHeinens: Prime Time for a Picnic

A picnic is a quintessential summer experience, so it should come as no surprise that July is National Picnic Month. We’ve been inspired by the many locations and fun fare ideas that our customers and area bloggers have shared with us and want to make sure you don’t miss out on the fun! Of course, there’s no reason not to picnic in August, September and, if the weather allows, October.

One thing is for certain with these picnics: a cheese board brings it all together. Here are a few tips for creating your own and don’t be afraid to add charcuterie.

Outdoor Entertainment

Picnic at an Outdoor Movie

Cleveland blogger Bite Buff picnicked at an outdoor movie. After quick trips to the Prepared Foods Department and the Cheese Department, she had a delectable spread put together in no time. With a plethora of summer events taking place, it’s a great idea to bring your own meal along.

A Favorite Park

Picnicking in the park is a classic, so it’s no surprise that Always Alicia + Goodbye Bread and Cheese both did. Of course, there are countless parks to choose from in Greater Cleveland and Chicago; you could spend the summer visiting them all and still have more to see.

Product Finds at Heinen's

Alicia stopped throughout the store to pick up a little bit of everything. The Olive Bar is an often-overlooked gem that’s perfect for a picnic! And – where parks allow – adding your favorite beer or wine to the spread is a delicious treat.

Goodbye Bread and Cheese's Picnic Spread

Goodbye Bread and Cheese was able to find some great options to fit her dietary needs while also scooping up treats for those consuming gluten and dairy. She even made her own Chicken Salad with the time-saving help of Heinen’s Rotisserie Chicken.

Your Own Backyard

While it’s always fun to venture out for a picnic, sometimes the comfort of your own backyard offers the perfect setting. Why CLE? picnicked on her patio this month with a spread that included fresh produce, crab dip, a cheese plate + charcuterie, and a spread of all things s’mores!

Ladies’ Night

The Well Dress’d Chef gathered up a few friends and created a memorable spread at a local park. Along with a bright, colorful plate of fresh produce and a cheeseboard, she also stopped by the Two Brothers Deli for cheese and turkey favorites and the Bakery for a loaf of bread and sweet treats.

Bottom line: bring a blanket + a basket full of Heinen’s goodies and you’re ready to picnic!
