#SummerWithHeinens: The Perfect Picnic

There is something for everyone to love at a picnic! Often one of the hardest parts of a picnic is the planning and prep work. We can’t pack your picnic basket for you, but we can help to cut way down on the prep time so that the hardest part of planning a picnic is carrying the cooler from the car to the picnic table. The secret to a fun and easy day is using some purchased prepared foods along with a few easy to make-ahead favorites.

Remember, it’s important to keep picnic foods cold. If packing on ice, be sure that containers have a good seal or put them in large zip lock bags to avoid any leaks. Lay the drinks on the bottom of the cooler and layer on the ice, packing the more delicate items on top.

Don’t forget to pack a few pillows along with a blanket or tablecloth and bring along lots of napkins, cups and disposable spoons, forks and any serving pieces you may need. No one likes eating potato salad with their fingers. Bug spray, wet wipes and sunscreen are sure to come in handy as well.

Depending on your plans, bring along books, games or toys like a Frisbee, football or soccer ball to get everyone moving.

One of the exciting things about a picnic is finding the perfect spot to lay your blanket, but unless you are familiar with the area, you should not plan to grill. Bring along easy to serve, ready to eat dishes instead. This will ensure that your picnic is stress-free and fun.

Now that you know the basics, all you have to do is find that perfect secluded spot, spread out your blanket and nosh the afternoon away. Not sure where to begin? We have a few picnic ideas and recipes to get you started.
