Tips for Making Great Tasting Smoothies

Smoothies are great for a quick, nutritious treat that’s truly customizable for everyone’s taste, even the pickiest eaters in the family can create a smoothie that’s all theirs. All you need for a great smoothie are four basic ingredients and you’re ready to have some fun creating flavor combinations that not only taste great but are perfect on the go!

Perfect for a quick breakfast or for refueling after school or work, smoothies can be packed with nutritious fruits and vegetables to give you power to stay focused throughout the day.

Preparing simple and healthy smoothies requires only four basic ingredients:

  1. A liquid base: Unsweetened almond, hemp, flax, cashew, coconut, soy or organic grass-fed cow’s milk.
  2. A carbohydrate source for immediate energy: Fruit or vegetable
  3. A protein source: Plain, non-fat Greek yogurt or a plant-based protein powder (Garden of Life Plant Protein)
  4. A fat source: Fresh ground peanut or almond butter, chia seeds, milled flax seeds, avocado, coconut oil

Tips for great-tasting smoothies!

  • For thick and cold smoothies: Use frozen fruit, such as blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, peaches, pineapples, mangoes, bananas (peel ripe bananas and freeze in freezer bags)
  • For best flavor and consistency: Prepare smoothies right before consumption
  • For a smoothie on the sweeter side, add 1 teaspoon of honey!

Blueberry & Avocado SmoothieBlueberry-Avocado-Smoothie

  • 4-6 ounces of milk (choose from” liquid base” list above)
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • ¼ cup plain, non-fat Greek yogurt or ½ scoop Garden of Life Plant Protein powder
  • ¼ of avocado

Add all ingredients to blender and blend until smooth.

 

Nutty Banana SmoothieBanana-Smoothie

  • 4-6 ounces of milk (choose from “liquid base” list above)
  • ½ banana, frozen
  • 1 handful spinach or kale (ribs and thick stems removed)
  • ¼ cup plain, non-fat Greek yogurt or ½ scoop Garden of Life Plant Protein powder
  • 1 Tbsp. Heinen’s fresh ground almond or peanut butter

Add all ingredients to blender and blend until smooth.

 

Strawberry Chia SmoothieStrawberry-Chia-Smoothie

  • 4-6 ounces of milk (choose from “liquid base” list above)
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • ¼ cup plain, non-fat Greek yogurt or ½ scoop Garden of Life Plant Protein powder
  • 1 Tbsp. chia seeds

Add all ingredients to blender and blend until smooth.
