Wild Caught in the Gulf of Mexico: Philly’s Brown & White Shrimp

While the traditional meals of the season typically consist of poultry and red meat, we always enjoy delicious, meaty shrimp at the holidays. Better yet – make it the star of the show by offering Wild Caught Shrimp. The sweeter flavor and superior taste and texture make for a memorable holiday appetizer or meal.

Philly’s Wild Texas Shrimp are labeled premium for good reason. From spawning to harvesting and packaging, the processes follow strict environmental and US-approved regulations and standards. The shrimp are spawned offshore in their natural environment and then harvested in regulated waters. Though they are never administered antibiotics or growth hormones, these shrimp are large in size – Brown Shrimp being the larger of the two.

Other differences between Brown & White Shrimp, beside size, include flavor and location. While both are sweet, Brown Shrimp are even sweeter. Brown Shrimp are harvested from the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico, whereas Philly’s Wild Texas White Shrimp come from the Gulf’s shallow waters.

Tips for Prepping

Once you find your preferred variety in the Seafood Department’s freezer section, take them home and allow them to thaw. Peel prior to cooking, then add them to your favorite appetizer or entree. Here’s a recipe for Italian-Style Shrimp with Sausage and Fried Polenta Cakes that we love this time of year.
