We asked Heinen’s executive chef, Ron Perkins to share his thoughts and suggestions for home entertaining. “As a chef I love to cook from an endless selection of seasonal food. My wife and I enjoy inviting our talented ‘chef friends’ to our home for an evening of foodie fun and cooking.
We have one simple rule … don’t bring any food, just bring your talent and your significant other. We pray for good weather because we will be cooking outdoors from a mystery basket that is filled with great finds that we have carefully selected from the thousands of items available at Heinen’s.
My wife and I present an assortment of hand-crafted artisan cheeses and a seafood tray that we carefully selected from the cheese and seafood departments at Heinen’s. This year we had a wonderful crumbly Barber's 1833 Vintage Reserve Cheddar and Moonfish fillets from Hawaii. And, of course, a wide selection of wine and beer and what you would expect at a chef’s house, a pantry and refrigerator full of amazing food and ingredients awaiting the guest chefs. They can select from lamb loin, shrimp, lobster meat, salmon, chicken, beef and pork – plus purple potatoes, Zima tomatoes, fresh vegetables, specialty pasta, olives and fresh picked herbs from our garden – just to give you an idea of the extensive list of what they get to choose from to create their own signature course. The evening is the highlight of year for everyone with over the top food, great stories and camaraderie that fill our stomachs and hearts."
