Well, the weather is finally cooperating, and with the change in season also comes a change in the food season. Light salads, grilled fish and meat, crisp Sauvignon Blanc and refreshing wheat beers. That’s what I’m looking for. In addition to that, I crave lighter, more refreshing cheeses. Translation: goat cheese.

While chevre, or fresh goat cheese, comes to mind quickly, don’t forget about the wonderful aged options we carry. They, too, are light and are perfect on top of salads, melted on burgers or added to pasta salads. Here is a list of some of my favorites:

1.   Cypress Grove Midnight Moon
Origin: California
Description: Aged 6 months or more, the texture is dense and smooth; the flavor is nutty with notes of brown butter and caramel
Pairing: fresh seasonal fruit; Michel-Schlumberger Maison Rouge

Naked Goat
Origin: Spain
Description: Outstanding; mild and creamy with a sweet tangy finish.
Pairing: wheat beer; Albariño

Origin: France
Description: Bloomy rind with dense, creamy edge; the center is fluffy, lemony and refreshing
Pairing: Pinot Blanc

Beemster Goat Gouda
Origin: Holland
Description: Aged for 4 months, butterscotch texture, wonderfully clean, sweet taste
Pairing: dry, French rosé

Vermont Creamery Coupole
Origin: Vermont
Description: Dense texture and fresh milk flavor; balanced between earthy and sweet.
Pairing: Melt on top of a grilled steak
