Decking your home with greenery, baubles and floral fun for the holidays: a six-part series teaching simple design techniques using grocery store finds.
We’ve all seen the evergreen boughs used in many tablescape centerpieces, but have you seen designs filled with pears and limes, seeded eucalyptus and clementines, feathers and animal print velvet ribbons before? This design is both super simple to put together, as well as incredibly memorable for your dinner guests.
Step 1: First make sure your dining table (or buffet table) is protected from being scratched using a table pad and tablecloth; even just a simple table runner will do.
Step 2: From there, start building and layering your design starting with the non-traditional greenery first. In this case, we used the winter-inspired seeded eucalyptus. Place some of the greenery facing one end of the table and the other side facing outward towards the other end of the table.
Step 3: Nestle your citrus fruits and pears in between the boughs of eucalyptus. Once you have the greenery and fruit in place you can add the finishing touches of feathers and ribbons, weaving touches of each through the entire length of the arrangement.
Remember these type of arrangements should be easy and fun. Don’t overthink them — go with what feels natural and festive. Your dinner guests will appreciate your creative spirit and ability to design something that may not include the more traditional greenery. Give it a shot!
