The Perfect Homemade Holiday Hostess Gift

December 4, 2017

Decking your home with greenery, baubles and floral fun for the holidays: a six-part series teaching simple design techniques using grocery store finds.

You know when you are invited to someone’s home during the holiday season and you think to yourself, “What should I bring them?” We’ve all brought the bottle of wine or the pine candle, but this time why not get creative with your holiday hostess gift giving? We promise to make it simple and super memorable for that special gift this holiday season.

Step 1: To start we recommend choosing a small, fresh evergreen wreath from the floral department. Also, purchase a special, smaller blooming plant; for this example we choose paperwhite bulbs.

Step 2: Pick up a vintage or decorative cake stand at your local thrift store or perhaps you might already have one buried deep in your kitchen cabinets that you haven’t used in some time. We also recommend finding an old container to hold the smaller live plant in.  Used candle containers always work well because we know if you are like us, you never want to throw them away.

Step 3: So once you have assembled your gift “ingredients” you can easily layer them onto each other. Start with your cake stand, layer on the small greenery wreath and then nestle the re-purposed container filled with your live plant in the center of the wreath. Your hostess will enjoy the table centerpiece for that night and the winter weeks to come. Easy, thoughtful and creative, what could be better?
