Bubbles Loves Food – Food Loves Bubbles

Bubbles and a Rose

As we approach one of the most romantic times of the year, it’s always a tasty journey to visit one of the loveliest culinary couples–bubbles and food.

Yes, bubbles are virtually synonymous with “celebration” and for good reason, as few wines can match the drama of popping a bottle of bubbles on a special occasion. While at Heinen’s we believe every day can be celebrated with an affordable bottle of fizzy goodness, bubbles should not be forgotten as a loving partner to your favorite foods!

When it comes to pairings, I believe that salt and fat are bubble’s best friends. Wait–it’s a good thing! Fat provides luxurious richness on the palate, which is the perfect foil to the zippy acidity found in sparklers, while a bit of salt brings subtle flavors of the wine to the forefront.

Creamy cheeses, fried foods and rich soups, like lobster bisque, are terrific ideas, but the secret pairing that ‘in-the-know bubbleheads’ really savor is as delicious as it is simple–potato chips! Remember: salt and fat. Potato chips. Try it.

In reality, there is no wrong food to have with bubbles. Eat and drink what you like and let the bubbles help turn this Valentine’s Day into a tasty treat! Here’s a delicious find that we highly recommend:

Chandon Brut Rosé- $17.99 (OH), $20.99 (IL) per bottle

The Chandon Brut Rosé is not just a delicious choice, but it is one of the truly great sparkling values in our stores. One of Napa Valley’s original bubbles producers, you can bet those folks know a thing or two about delivering a fun and tasty fizzy experience!

Deep rose in color, the wine reveals citrus, rose, red berry and red cherry notes. On the palate, it is ripe and toasty leading to a finish that is crisp and lingering. Now that you are probably ready to run out and grab a bottle, you’ll want to make sure that you have some delicious food-pairing suggestions too. We recommend Valentine’s Day treats like shrimp cocktail, smoked salmon, creamy cheeses and dark chocolate-based desserts.

Cheers!
