Easter Ham Fast Facts

1. What’s the difference between a Bone-In and a Boneless Ham?
A boneless ham will have the center bone removed, which will make it easier to slice. A bone-in ham will have the center bone intact upon purchase. Keeping the bone adds extra flavor to the meat. You can even use the bone to make stocks, soups and stews later on.

2. What is a Spiral Sliced Ham?
Spiral slicing is a process where a standard ham is cut on its exterior in one continuous spiral. The meat is left completely intact, but small spiral slices allow for ease of carving when it comes time to serve the meal.

3. Can I Buy a Ham Fully Cooked?
Yes! All of the hams that we offer come fully cooked, which means you can spend less time in the kitchen and more time around the table with family.

4. Do I need to Pre-Order a Ham?
Yes! To pre-order a ham, you can call or visit the Meat Department at your preferred Heinen’s location or place an order online.

5. Do all Heinen’s Hams Come in a Butcher Shop Box?
Heinen’s Butcher Shop Boxes are only available for Heinen’s Bone-In Spiral Sliced Glazed Ham. Butcher Shop Boxes can be provided with other ham offerings upon request.

Heinen’s Own Hams
Seeing as our legacy began as a butcher shop in 1929, we find tradition to be very important, especially with our meat. That’s why our own ham is made using Joe Heinen’s original family recipe! Although we can’t give away our family secrets, we’re proud to say that our ham is hickory-smoked and all-natural.

We also offer several varieties including:

  • Boneless
  • Bone-In
  • Spiral Sliced
  • Honey Glazed

Niman Ranch Spiral Sliced Ham
Niman Ranch is proud to offer a gourmet spiral sliced ham that is made with a delicious blend of maple, sugar and salt. Smoked slowly for nearly 12 hours over Applewood, their ham is the perfect balance of sweet and smoky. Raised on an all-vegetarian diet, this ham is free of nitrates, gluten, hormones and antibiotics, so you can feel good serving it to your family.

By Heinen's Grocery Store
In 1929, Joe Heinen opened the doors of a small butcher shop on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, aiming to establish himself as the city’s purveyor of quality meats. As customers came into Heinen’s new shop for their meat purchases, they began asking him to carry groceries as well. Joe added homemade peanut butter, pickles and donuts and by 1933, business had grown enough to include a line of produce and canned goods. Heinen’s Grocery Store was born.
