Juicy Lucy Burger

Recipe, video and photography provided by Heinen’s partner, Chef Billy Parisi.

If you like your burgers cheesy, this recipe is for you!

Fresh slices of cheese are a must-have when making burgers. While the beloved cheeseburger features a blanket of melted American or cheddar cheese overtop of a perfectly charred patty, the Juicy Lucy Burger is cheesy from the inside out!

Juicy Lucy Burger Ingredients

Created in the Midwest in the ‘50s, the Juicy Lucy Burger features two seasoned, hand-formed patties that are melded together with cheese in the center. Made with Heinen’s CARE Certified ground beef, a few everyday spices and fresh slices of cheese, they’re just as easy to cook as an average burger, but the flavor is next level.

Juicy Lucy Burger

Finished with a top layer of cheese, just like a classic cheeseburger, and layered on Heinen’s premium brioche buns with traditional burger fixings and an unexpected, but delicious, drizzle of thousand island dressing, this burger proves that you can never have too much cheese!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Heinen’s CARE Certified 80/20 ground beef
  • 2 Tbsp. Heinen’s unsalted butter
  • 2 tsp. Heinen’s garlic granules
  • 1 tsp. Heinen’s paprika
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices Heinen’s sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 Heinen’s brioche buns, toasted
  • Green leaf lettuce
  • Tomatoes, slices
  • Heinen’s dill pickle slices
  • Heinen’s CARE Certified bacon, cooked
  • Thousand island dressing
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill between 400°F-450°F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the beef, butter, garlic granules, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper.
  3. Form the mixture into 4 even-sized balls and place them on a platter or sheet tray.
  4. Press down on each meatball until they are about ¼-inch thick.
  5. Take two slices of cheddar cheese and fold them in half, then fold them in half again.
  6. Place the folded cheddar slices in the center of two smashed burger patties.
  7. Take the other patties and place them on top of the cheese. Reform the patties until they are combined and uniformly shaped.
  8. Cook the burgers on the preheated grill for 6-7 minutes per side, or until well-browned and cooked throughout.
  9. With about 2 minutes left in the total grilling process, place the remaining cheddar slices on top of each burger and cook until melted.
  10. Build the burger in the following order: toasted bottom bun, lettuce, sliced tomatoes, pickles, crisp cooked bacon, burger, thousand island and top toasted bun.
