Six Ways Your Heinen’s Fishmonger can Help You

Purchasing and preparing seafood can be an intimidating experience, but with the right information, it doesn’t have to be.

As fascinating as it would be to take a deep dive into the many sourcing and cooking methods of our seafood selection, you’re busy and need to trust that the seafood you feed your family is top quality and easy to prepare for any occasion.

That’s where our talented team of expert fishmongers come in! At Heinen’s, we make product knowledge and customer service our top priorities, and our Seafood Department is no exception. Every Heinen’s fishmonger has an undeniable passion for the world of seafood and can provide services, information and inspiration to make shopping for seafood an easy, full-service experience – no Googling necessary!

1. We can tell you the exact origin of your seafood.
We’re all about knowing our sources, but we don’t just know about them, we actually know who they are, where they work and how they source the seafood that’s sold in our stores. From the remote islands of South America, to the icy waters of Norway, to the rushing rivers of the Pacific Northwest, if you’re wondering where in the world our seafood comes from, we can tell you with certainty! Some of our sources even have the ability to share the fishing boat on which a piece of seafood was caught, and the fisherman who caught it!

2. We can prep seafood to your specifications.
Don’t let lack of experience keep you from enjoying the freshest seafood in the Midwest. Whether you need your fish filleted, skinned or seasoned, our fishmongers can prepare your seafood of choice exactly how you like it, making your work in the kitchen that much easier.

3. We can share the best ways to cook your seafood.
Like we said, cooking seafood can be intimidating, but with the right information it doesn’t have to be. It doesn’t take a master chef to prepare restaurant quality seafood at home. In fact, all it takes is knowing the best cooking method, temperature and seasonings. From the stovetop to the grill to the oven, spare yourself the Google search because our fishmongers know exactly how to cook each piece of seafood to perfection.

4. We take special orders.
Seafood and seasonality go hand-in-hand, so if you’re not finding your favorite seafood when you shop, we’ll do everything we can to get it for you. The close relationships we’ve built with our partners allow us to get exactly what you need as fast as possible, as long as its in season. Our Chagrin Falls Fishmonger, Dave, says that he places special orders almost every day!

Pro Tip: Call your preferred Heinen’s location before your visit to see if your seafood of choice is available. If not, place your special request over the phone so it is ready next time you shop. We kindly request at least 24 hours notice for all special requests.

5. We take the thought and effort out of mealtime.
Between lack of inspiration and lack of time, we know how challenging it can be to get a delicious dinner on the table. That’s why our fishmongers hand-make seafood burgers, kebabs and marinated/ crusted fish fillets in-store each day, so all you have to do is pick your favorite option, cook it to your liking and enjoy!

Pro Tip: If you’re looking for a specific premade item, call your preferred Heinen’s location before your visit. If they don’t have it already, they will make it for you. We kindly request at least 24 hours notice for all special requests.

6. We can help you host a clambake.
Hosting a clambake is no small feat! Between the equipment and ingredients, there’s a lot to check off the list before guests arrive. During clambake season (early September – late October), we have all of those little details covered with our full-service clambakes. From the clams themselves to all of the classic sides, we can provide you with the essentials, including a burner and pot rental. Simply call your preferred Heinen’s location, tell them how many guests you’re expecting and they’ll take care of the rest.

There’s no need to fear the world of seafood! With a little help from our expert fishmongers, everyone can shop and cook seafood like a pro!

By Heinen's Grocery Store
In 1929, Joe Heinen opened the doors of a small butcher shop on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, aiming to establish himself as the city’s purveyor of quality meats. As customers came into Heinen’s new shop for their meat purchases, they began asking him to carry groceries as well. Joe added homemade peanut butter, pickles and donuts and by 1933, business had grown enough to include a line of produce and canned goods. Heinen’s Grocery Store was born.
