Hello everyone! My name is Lauren and today I’m going to be sharing with you tips on floral arrangements using Heinen’s fresh blooms. Heinen’s Grocery store is my number one go-to place to get fresh flowers. Heinen’s offers so many different options in their floral department including a section that you can choose three floral bouquets for $15.00.

When putting together an arrangement select a flower that appeals to you. You can choose a bouquet of the same flower, or bunches that are complementary colors. I find that nature is the best example of complementary colors. Notice the shades in the petals and the center of the flower. Once you’ve selected your flowers it’s time to choose your vessel. Home retail stores and thrift stores are all great places to shop for vases. Household items such as pitchers, bottles and mason jars can be great options as well. Today, I chose some gorgeous white Hydrangeas and selected a pale creamy yellow pitcher to place them in.

Once you’ve selected your flowers, it’s time to start cutting the flower stems with floral shears or a sharp knife. The way you cut the flowers can make all the difference in how long they last. The stems of a flower should be cut at about a 45-degree angle. The flower stems should be no more than one and a half to two times the height of a vase. Also, make sure to remove any leaves that will be underwater to avoid any bacteria which can cause your flowers to rot.

Clean your vase thoroughly before adding fresh water. Hydrangeas like room temperature water and your vase should be filled with enough water to submerge the stems. Next, I added a packet of plant preservatives to my pitcher which is included with my Heinen’s flowers.

How to Guide

Now, it’s time to start adding your flowers. Begin placing two stems in the middle of your vessel in different directions. Then start adding more flowers working around the outside edges in a circular motion. I recommend turning the arrangement as you work to make sure it looks even. Adjust if you need to.

How to Guide

After a few days make sure to refresh the water and trim the stems. This will help prolong the life of your flowers. Also, keep them away from direct sunlight. When creating an arrangement your options are endless. Be creative and have fun!

By Heinen's Floral Department
In 1929, Joe Heinen opened the doors of a small butcher shop on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, aiming to establish himself as the city’s purveyor of quality meats. As customers came into Heinen’s new shop for their meat purchases, they began asking him to carry groceries as well. Joe added homemade peanut butter, pickles and donuts and by 1933, business had grown enough to include a line of produce and canned goods. Heinen’s Grocery Store was born.
