Do you love melted cheese? If your answer is “yes,” then you simply must try the beautiful Raclette that just arrived to our Specialty Cheese Department!
Raclette is a washed rind cheese that was originally produced in the French-speaking areas of Switzerland. The term Raclette in French means “to scrape,” which is exactly what you do with this delectable cheese once it melts!
Although Raclette is available year-round, the variety that that just arrived to our stores, Beillevaire Raclette de Montagne, is only produced from the end of September through the first week of April and expresses the special qualities of seasonally produced milk.
Less robust than year-round Raclettes and delicately flavored, this seasonal cheese is traditionally melted in large halves with an industrial kitchen tool called a raclement and served over cooked potatoes.
We realize that the everyday cheese lover likely does not have access to a raclement, but don’t worry, you can still host your own Raclette melting at home with a special tool called a Boska Partyclette! A mini version of the raclement, the Partyclette is carried in our Specialty Cheese Department and comes with four unscented tea candles that heat small slices of Raclette to bubbly perfection. Easy to clean and even easier to store, it’s an ideal tool for any cheese head!
