Two Brothers: The Story Behind the Label

When perusing the aisles at your local Heinen’s, you’ll see thousands of products and labels. Some you may recognize from your childhood, others you may have discovered on a whim. These products and labels may have meaning to you too, like tradition or quality. Have you ever noticed a label with an abstract image of two faces, called Two Brothers?

For Heinen’s, the Two Brothers name and label has special meaning. The two faces represent third generation owners, Jeff and Tom Heinen. The products that wear these labels are equally special because they meet or exceed Heinen’s highest quality standards and are hand-selected by our experts to provide you with the best products on the market. They represent the peak product quality that Heinen’s believes in.

Our Heinen’s brand also reflects our commitment to sourcing top quality products. The difference between these two is that they meet different needs. Our Heinen’s brand provides everyday products at competitive prices, but our Two Brothers brand stands out for its unique artisanal selection. Products that sport the Two Brothers label represents our 90 year commitment to finding the best to sell the best.

There’s no true rhyme or reason to how Two Brothers products are discovered. Some items are simply the best we’ve ever tasted in our travels while others are uncovered by good chance at friendly gatherings or casual tastings. No matter how they find their way to us, one thing is certain, Two Brothers products are always unique, interesting and of exceptional quality.

By Heinen's Grocery Store

In 1929, Joe Heinen opened the doors of a small butcher shop on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, aiming to establish himself as the city’s purveyor of quality meats. As customers came into Heinen’s new shop for their meat purchases, they began asking him to carry groceries as well. Joe added homemade peanut butter, pickles and donuts and by 1933, business had grown enough to include a line of produce and canned goods. Heinen’s Grocery Store was born.

  1. I had an interview back in the late 70’s to be an apprentice Meat Cutter. I was in the start of the interview when the power went out and they had to close the store leaving me to reschedule the interview. A Heinen Family member was doing the Interview but time erased any names. He was very considerate and asked me to please reschedule which I intended to do. A couple of days later, I got a promotion in the job and industry I was in and never rescheduled. I have always had a high regard for Heinen’s ever since. Never knew the Two Brothers story until now.
    Be Well.

  2. Just a quick note – have just started using your barbecue and teriyaki sauces – very pleased with them – like your marketing and sourcing information – very reassuring when facing shelves filled with multitudes of choices!

Looking forward to trying the seasonings and other sauces – my last name reveals my husband background, who likes his spices!
