Spiced Vanilla Pear Bread

Spiced Vanilla Pear Bread

The following recipe and photography were provided by our partner, Megan Weimer of Dollop of Dough.

When apple season winds down, pear season is just beginning!

I love eating pears out of hand as a snack, but when the fall and winter months roll around, I crave something a little more comforting than the cold and juicy bite that a pear offers on its own.

Spiced Vanilla Pear Bread

I love baking bread when the weather gets chilly, so I chopped up a few oy my favorite Bartlett pears and tossed them into a seasonally inspired batter.

Spiced Vanilla Pear Bread

Dense, moist and just a little fruity, this fresh-baked loaf is spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves making for the perfect winter treat.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Heinen's unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup Heinen's brown sugar, packed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. Heinen's ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. Heinen's ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. Heinen's allspice
  • 1/4 tsp. Heinen's cloves
  • 2 cups Bartlett pears, peeled and chopped (about 3 pears)
  • 1 extra Bartlett pear, finely sliced

Instructions

  1. Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper and set aside. Preheat the oven to 350F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and brown sugar. Add the eggs (one at a time)and the vanilla extract. Mix until well incorporated.
  3. Add half of the flour and all of the baking powder, baking soda and salt to the bowl. Mix with a rubber spatula until no streaks of flour remain.
  4. Fold in the rest of the flour and all of the spices.
  5. Gently fold the pears into the batter.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth out the top with a rubber spatula. Carefully place the thin pear slices on top.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out with a few moist crumbs. Bake time will depend on the juiciness of the pears, so start
    checking at 50 minutes.
  8. Allow the pear bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire cooling rack. Slice and enjoy!
