Cheddar Apple Butter Pinwheels

Cheddar Apple Butter Pinwheels

With this recipe I’m reinventing the wheel, well, pinwheel!

Pinwheels seem to always stick to one side of the spectrum, sweet or savory, so I broke the mold and combined sweet apple butter with salty bacon and gooey cheddar cheese. Be prepared for a flavor bomb! Apple pie and cheddar cheese are a perfect match, so these just make sense.

Cheddar Apple Butter Pinwheels

For this recipe I like to use Heinen’s cheddar cheese block from the Dairy Department! Grating your own cheese makes for a meltier pinwheel, and I am all about a good cheese pull! I used Heinen’s sharp cheddar, but any type of cheddar will fit right in these delicious wheels. Heinen’s cheese selection is second to none, so go crazy and find what fits your palate! I love to substitute the bacon for candied pecans, I never thought I’d say this, but it makes me forget about bacon for once!

Breakout this recipe for any fall gettogether, or impress the in-laws at Thanksgiving by bringing this appetizer to the table.

These fall flavors add to any menu and pair perfectly with a spiced cider after a day of apple picking! They can even be made ahead of time! Just toss them in the oven right before serving, and you’ll be moments away from falling in love!

Servings:
12 Pinwheels

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 5 Tbsp. store-bought apple butter
  • 1 cup Heinen's cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/3 cup Heinen's CARE Certified bacon, crumbled
  • 1 tsp. fresh thyme

Instructions

  1. Gently roll out the sheet of puff pastry. Aim for 14 x 14 inches.
  2. Spread the apple butter on top followed by the crumbled bacon, thyme, and shredded cheese.
  3. Roll tightly into a log, then place onto parchment paper. Place this into the freezer for at least 15 minutes. This will make slicing much easier. You can make this ahead of time and store in the refrigerator until ready to bake!
  4. Preheat the oven to 375° F. Slice the log into 3/4-inch pinwheels and place them onto a lightly greased baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
  5. Serve immediately with extra apple butter. Enjoy!
