Pumpkin Roll on a Plate

The following reviews and photos were provided courtesy of Heinen’s contributors, Abby Thome of The Thome Home, Julia of A Cedar Spoon and Graham of Cooking with Carl.

No matter the time of year, we’re always craving sweets from our bakery, but as the weather turns cool and the holiday season approaches, our taste for baked goods only grows. Luckily, our cravings can always be fulfilled by the never ending assortment of sweet and savory goodies made and sourced by our bakery team.

From fresh-baked artisan bread and cookies, to rich and indulgent cheesecake and limited-time seasonal specialties, your taste buds are sure to be satisfied all season long.

In the spirit of all things baked, our contributors visited their local Heinen’s Bakery and perused the selection to find their favorite seasonal item! What did they choose? Check out their favorites below!

1. Pain Paillasse Artisan Bread – Julia of a Cedar Spoon

“Pain Paillasse artisan bread is a rustic, slightly sweet bread. My family loved the soft center along with the crisp, caramelized crust.  It would be perfect paired with soup, pasta or toasted for breakfast with a spread of butter, but this time around, I used it as the base for a crostini appetizer that’s perfect for holiday entertaining! The bread comes in a variety of flavors including traditional white and rustic, but I was drawn to the seasonal Pumpkin & Fig and Apricot & Cranberry. The Apricot flavor was perfect for holding the hummus, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, feta cheese, parsley and microgreens on my Mediterranean Apricot Crostini.”

2. Heinen’s Pumpkin Roll – Abby Thome of The Thome Home

“Tis’ the season for Heinen’s Pumpkin Roll! If you have had the chance to taste this decadent treat, you will understand why they disappear as soon as the bakery cases are filled! The pumpkin roll cake is fluffy and perfectly spiced so it pairs perfectly with the rich cream cheese frosting. Every Thanksgiving I have one of these on hand and serve it with coffee for our guests to enjoy after dinner. Heinen’s Pumpkin Roll makes for the most fitting treat to end your holiday on a sweet note!”

3. Heinen’s Flavored Cheesecakes – Graham of Cooking with Carl

“Cheesecakes are mine and my wife’s guilty pleasure and when we visited Heinen’s bakery and saw that they had two of our favorite flavors (Oreo and Raspberry), we were thrilled. This rich and creamy Oreo Cheesecake is for the cookie monster in your life! My favorite part was the Oreo cookie crust. It is moist and packed full of cookie flavor. The actual cheesecake tastes similar to Oreo cream.  It’s UNBELIEVABLE! Throw in real cookie chunks (no small pieces here!) and you’ve got an Oreo lover’s dream come true!”

“Cheesecake lovers are in for a berry delicious surprise with this Raspberry Cheesecake! The subtle tartness from the raspberry is the perfect complement to the sweet and tangy cheesecake. Melt in your mouth cheesecake rests on a graham cracker crust, creating a memorable bite that’ll have your fork ready to dive in for more!”

By Heinen's Grocery Store
In 1929, Joe Heinen opened the doors of a small butcher shop on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, aiming to establish himself as the city’s purveyor of quality meats. As customers came into Heinen’s new shop for their meat purchases, they began asking him to carry groceries as well. Joe added homemade peanut butter, pickles and donuts and by 1933, business had grown enough to include a line of produce and canned goods. Heinen’s Grocery Store was born.
