Mayo-Free Coleslaw

Mayo-Free Coleslaw

The following recipe and photography was provided courtesy of Allianna Moximchalk from Allianna’s Kitchen.

This homemade Mayo-Free Coleslaw is easy to make and so delicious! While most coleslaws are heavy with mayonnaise, this recipe is very light.

Mayo-Free Coleslaw

Requiring only 10 minutes of hands-on time and very little chopping thanks to Heinen’s pre-packaged chopped slaw with carrots, this is a side dish I love to serve at impromptu summer cookouts.

Ingredients

  • 1 package Heinen's premade slaw and carrots (in the Produce Department)
  • ½ yellow onion, diced
  • ⅓ cup Heinen's apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup Heinen's extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 Tbsp. Heinen's honey
  • 1 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • A pinch of salt
  • A pinch of pepper
  • Heinen's sliced almonds, for serving
  • Raisins or dried cranberries, for serving

Instructions

  1. Place all of the ingredients in a bowl, except for the slaw and carrots, sliced almonds and raisins/cranberries. Whisk until smooth.
  2. Add the slaw and carrots to a separate serving bowl, pour the dressing overtop and toss to coat.
  3. For the best results, allow the dressed slaw to sit in the fridge for an hour prior to serving. The vinegar helps break down the cabbage, making it softer.
  4. Serve with sliced almonds and raisins or cranberries.

Mayo-Free Coleslaw

By Heinen's Grocery Store
In 1929, Joe Heinen opened the doors of a small butcher shop on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, aiming to establish himself as the city’s purveyor of quality meats. As customers came into Heinen’s new shop for their meat purchases, they began asking him to carry groceries as well. Joe added homemade peanut butter, pickles and donuts and by 1933, business had grown enough to include a line of produce and canned goods. Heinen’s Grocery Store was born.
