The Story Behind the Stems: Heinen’s Premium Roses are Named a Fan Favorite

This article is by Alex Miles, a contributing food and lifestyle writer for Heinen’s.

For years, our customers have told us there is something different, something special about our bright, long-lasting roses. Now, we’ve made it official.

These precious stems have been named a Heinen’s Fan Favorite, a special designation that celebrates products for achieving exceptional quality and value.

From their generous blooms to their impressive vase life, these roses have earned their place as a Floral department standout.

These products aren’t chosen lightly. From Bakery classics to Floral finds, the Heinen’s Fan Favorite gold seal indicates that a product is truly worthy of a spot in your grocery cart—and space in your home.

Heinen’s Premium Roses now proudly carry that special honor, rising above the rest thanks to their bigger blooms, hardier stems and long-lasting beauty.

From the Andes Mountains to your Home

The origin story of Heinen’s Premium Roses begins far from our stores—high in the Andes Mountains near Quito, Ecuador. This region is world-renowned for producing premium roses, thanks to a rare combination of geography and climate.

Ecuador is one of the world’s top producers of cut flowers, especially roses. The country’s environmental conditions are considered the best on Earth for planting and growing bold, beautiful blooms.

Here’s What Makes Ecuadorian Roses Special:

  • Bright, consistent sunshine fuels vibrant color and strong growth
  • Cool mountain nights slow development, creating sturdier stems
  • Rich volcanic soil delivers vital nutrients
  • High altitude encourages larger blooms and longer-lasting beauty

Together, these elements help cultivate roses that are not only stunning at first glance but designed to last the test of time.

Heinen’s Partnership with Stellar Farms continues to Grow

Heinen’s Premium Roses come from Stellar Farms, our trusted floral partner that works with a network of rose farms across Ecuador.

Rather than relying on a single grower, Stellar Farms selects roses from multiple farms, ensuring consistent quality, variety and availability throughout the year. The brand’s roses are hailed as the gold standard for wholesalers and event designers worldwide.

Of course, they received our golden seal of approval!

Stellar Farms is known for its approach to florals, each stem is chosen for beauty, strength and freshness, then carefully handled through a reliable cold-chain process to ensure it arrives to Heinen’s looking its best.

Behind every bouquet is a shared commitment—to craftsmanship, responsible growing practices, and delivering flowers that truly make a moment feel special.

Heinen's Grocery Store

By Heinen's Grocery Store

In 1929, Joe Heinen opened the doors of a small butcher shop on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, aiming to establish himself as the city’s purveyor of quality meats. As customers came into Heinen’s new shop for their meat purchases, they began asking him to carry groceries as well. Joe added homemade peanut butter, pickles and donuts and by 1933, business had grown enough to include a line of produce and canned goods. Heinen’s Grocery Store was born.
