The following recipe and photography was provided by recipe developer and food photographer, Ashley Durand of Plate & Pen.

Fall is officially upon us! Since moving to Cleveland 3 years ago, I still can’t get enough of harvest season. There’s nothing quite like the foliage, the orchards, the weather, the food and, of course, the cider that the Midwest has to offer.

In honor of the season I wanted to combine two drinks I love but never had together before. That combination is apple cider and sake.

I chose to serve these drinks cold, but since they are shot-sized, warm would be so much fun! They’re also the perfect responsible socially distanced holiday party drink! Of course, I get all of my fresh produce from Heinen’s, and their local apple cider is no exception!

Ingredients

  • Half gallon fresh local apple cider
  • Half gallon plum sake (sub with regular sake)
  • Cinnamon and sugar, to rim the glasses

Instructions

  1. Rim regular glasses or shot glasses with a lemon wedge for wetness. Dip in a plate of cinnamon sugar to coat the rim.
  2. Mix local apple cider and plum sake together.
  3. If serving hot, heat the apple cider and sake mixture on the stove.
  4. Pour into glasses or shot glasses. If serving cold in regular glasses, add ice.
  5. Add apple slices for garnish, if desired.

Note: This recipe requires equal parts of local apple cider and sake, so if you want to make only a few drinks or shots rather than a gallon, you can mix them individually or pre-measure if you want to boil for a hot drink.
