The recipe and photography for this post were provided by local blogger, Abby Thome of The Thome Home.

I may not be the most athletic girl in town, but I, hands down, could tackle a crowd of people to get my hands on these Sweet Potato Wedges.  There is something so scrumptious about their crispy exterior, and when paired with the fluffy creamy inside, they become the perfect match. You didn’t think I’d whip up sweet potato wedges and serve them with ketchup, did you? In The Thome Home, we tend to take things to an entirely new level!

You must add these ingredients to your next Heinen’s grocery list. Different foods are constantly trending on social media, and I am quite surprised that the sweet potato has not made its big debut yet. I’ll do my part and start the wave with our ultimate Sweet Potato Wedges!

Omitting meat as often as possible is important in our home. I love to find new twists on staples that are nutrient-dense and could make an incredible side dish for my family to enjoy. Did you know, just one baked sweet potato contains enough Vitamin C to meet half of your daily needs? Even better, these beauties are packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties! This is a side dish you can feel good about eating.

These wedges are a fun way to add a flare to a basic dinner side. I whipped up two versions since I could not make up my mind as to what flavor profile I wanted to share. You simply bake the wedges, toss them in seasoning and dress with a delicious homemade sauce. The seasoning and sauces are what makes the difference between the two recipes. The first is Taco Wedges that get drizzled with a creamy avocado sauce. The second are Garlic Parmesan Wedges that get drizzled with a spicy sriracha yogurt sauce.

Guys, these will transform your approach to a basic boring potato side!

Sweet Potato Wedges (Two Ways!)

Taco Wedges

Taco Wedges Ingredients:

  • 4 Medium Sweet Potatoes, skin on, cut into wedges
  • 1 tbsp taco seasoning

Note: If you don’t have taco seasoning on hand us 1 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp paprika,  1/2 tsp chili powder, and a pinch of cumin.

Avocado Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup avocado
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • Pinch of salt + pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder : 1 tbsp chopped green onion

Instructions:

  1. Blend sauce ingredients together until it is a smooth, pourable puree. If it is too thick, simply add a splash of buttermilk until desired consistency.
  2. On a baking sheet lined with foil, prepped with Pam – Bake at 375* for 50 – 60 minutes skin side down. Do not flip or turn them throughout the entire time this ensures that the wedges get a nice crispy exterior.
  3. Remove wedges from oven and let cool for 1 minute. Add the warm sweet potato wedges to a bowl, sprinkle with taco seasoning and gently toss.
  4. Drizzle wedges with the Creamy Avocado sauce and serve immediately.

Spicy Garlic Parmesan Wedges

Garlic Parmesan Wedges Ingredients:

  • 4 Medium Sweet Potatoes, skin on, cut into wedges
  • 1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese

Spicy Sriracha Yogurt Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 Tablespoon Sriracha
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

Instructions:

  1. Whisk together the sriracha, Greek yogurt + garlic powder.  Set sauce aside.
Add the warm tater tots to a bowl, sprinkle with garlic powder and Parmesan cheese and gently toss!  Drizzle with the sriracha sauce and serve immediately.

These sweet potato wedges were incredible.  Tiny bites packed with zesty flavors and scrumptious sauce.  An amazing appetizer, side dish or swap for a traditional chicken wing!

By Heinen's Grocery Store
In 1929, Joe Heinen opened the doors of a small butcher shop on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, aiming to establish himself as the city’s purveyor of quality meats. As customers came into Heinen’s new shop for their meat purchases, they began asking him to carry groceries as well. Joe added homemade peanut butter, pickles and donuts and by 1933, business had grown enough to include a line of produce and canned goods. Heinen’s Grocery Store was born.
